PoE and Port Planner

Enter your cameras and access points and check whether the ports and total PoE budget of your switch are sufficient.

DeviceQuantityPower consumption per unit (W)RequiresTotal (W)
What does this mean?

With PoE (Power over Ethernet), a device receives power through the network cable. Two things must match: each port must be powerful enough for the device (af, at, or bt), and the total of all devices must stay within the switch's PoE budget. So a switch with 8 ports and a 60 W budget cannot power four 20 W cameras, even though it has enough ports.

The standards deliver 15.4 W (af), 30 W (at), 60 W (bt type 3), and 90 W (bt type 4) at the switch side; the device itself receives less due to cable loss. The power consumption in the examples is an estimate: check the nameplate or specifications of your own device. Passive PoE (for example 24 V) is not compatible with these standards. The calculation happens in your browser.
