Bandwidth Converter

Convert network speeds between bits and bytes and see how much data that is per hour, day, and month.

What does this mean?

Internet speeds are expressed in bits per second (Mbit/s), while file sizes are expressed in bytes (MB). One byte is 8 bits, so a 100 Mbit/s connection theoretically reaches 12.5 MB/s. A 1 Gbit/s network is roughly 125 MB/s.

In practice, protocol overhead usually means you'll get 90 to 95% of the theoretical speed, and a wifi connection or a slow disk can result in even less. Want to know how long a download will take? Use our Download time tool. Does your disk show less space than what's on the box? Use TB to TiB.
