Hash generator

Calculate MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256 and other hashes of text or a file, and verify a download.

What does this mean?

A hash is a fingerprint of data: change one character, and the entire hash changes. This is how you verify that a downloaded file (for example a Linux ISO or a Home Assistant image) has not been corrupted or modified. Compare the hash above with the one on the download page; if they match, the file is good.

Use SHA-256 or higher if the download page offers it. MD5 and SHA-1 are no longer secure against deliberate modification and are only suitable for checking for corruption. Files are processed entirely in your browser; for very large files (more than a few GB) this can be slow or consume memory.
