Raspberry Pi Power Consumption

Estimate the power consumption and cost of a Raspberry Pi that's on day and night.

What does this mean?

A Raspberry Pi is energy efficient: a Pi 4 or Pi 5 uses about 3 watts at idle and up to 7 watts under full load. A server that is on 24 hours a day therefore uses a few dozen kWh per year, which comes down to a few dozen euros. Usually a Pi is not under full load the whole time, so calculate with a small percentage.

The figures per model are indicative values for the bare board; actual power usage depends on your power supply, your disk, the network cable, and what you run. Adjust the values if you have measured it with a plug-in power meter. An ssd or hard disk adds a few extra watts. Also calculate other devices with the Electricity Cost tool, and read in our guide about a mini PC how it compares to a Pi.
